Peter Gabriel - Security (1982 Charisma)

This is what happened to the so called progressive rock of the 70's. Genesis with Gabriel was one of the original ones on prog era. In 80's he was the Leader the Messaiah to lead the progressive rock on the next level. Did he make it? No he did not, because he was too much believeing just He was the progress. He was not. This music is very listenable 80's art rock, but not much more. I can use this music to clear my mind temporarily after an overdose of everything i usually listen. Shock the monkey!

Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Hallway Symphony (1972 Probe)

Sad to say, there's only one good original song on the album "Anna, No Can Do" composed by Alan Gordon. The standard rest stuff are composed by Lambert/Potter, except one Simon/Garfunkel cover. I may keep this just beacause of Anna No Can Do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV57oc0Do3Q

Sound In Motion (1973 Quadradisc)

Quadraphonic "field recordings" from different places: streets of London and San Francisco, a car race in Reno,  etc.. man collecting junk on streets of London, the engine number 45 on the rail paradise Klamath & HoppowValley Railroad, Saturday morning on Portobello road, San Francisco Cable cars... When listening to these different sounds scenes i never got tired. On the contrary i would listen even a whole album of steam engines coming and leaving.

That's Underground / The Rock Machine Turns You On (1968 CBS)

The United States of America's "Hard Coming Love" is the One on this album. I'm going to use this as a clock face  - make a clock on my wall of it. I have made some for my friends and my daughter using red coca cola vinyl lps. This will be for myself. Nice  album . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtWS2IXsLf0

Walter Carlos - Clockwork Orange (1972 CBS)

Music by Walter (Wendy) Carlos from film Clockwork Orange. "Wendy's" own electropsych piece "Time Steps" sounds really good, like a mix of Tangerine Dream, ELP and Oldfield's Tubular Bells. Oldfield must have had it on his mind when planning TB. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqE-y4CLSRA

Druid - Toward The Sun (1975 Emi this CD 2003)

Someone says on RYM:  "The Yes-clone label is well deserved, but still a damn fine album. Perhaps the best Yes album Yes never recorded." I agree with that with an addition that the sound scene on the album is much like on "tales from the Topografic oceans"

Wonderful jazzy Canterbury style prog music. I just love this album. Big City and Yellow Sunshine are the highlights.

Capability Brown - From Scratch (1972 Charisma / Buddah)

From Scratch causes ambivalent feelings on me. There are some ok covers: A Rare Bird cover "Beautiful Scarlet" and "Liar" from Argent, but i think the rest of the album is more their own style and does better.
When listening "Do You Believe" on headphones i imagine hearing some "Yes" kind of passages and even Kenny Rowe on bass sounding like Chris Squire.

I will be there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb5n4djiW8E

ID - Where Are We Going (1975/77 Aura)

Frank Zappa once asked What's new in Baltimore? He probably never heard this psychoanalysis based intelligent design output. This hard psych prog rock album is full of killer fuzzy guitar and mellotron. The sound scene is so full you never get bored even there aren't many identifiable compositions/melodies. One could describe this proto-punk-prog: a bit late to be protoprog and a bit early to be punk. So i hear this music psych-prog played with a charmingly aggressive approach of punk attitude. If you like Hawkwind i'm sure you'd like ID.

Tuntematon Tekijä - Ihmemaa (1985 CBS)

Some dealers say this is prog but i'm not so sure of that. There where at least two reasons why i picked this one up. The first is: Jorma Sauvala who is responsible for this album was my room mate when we were accomplishing  our obligatory military service in Finnish army. The other reason is i have never heard a song made of Margaret Thatcher. Now i know there are some by Morissey, Elvis Costello, and even Pink Floyd for example. The third reason for purchasing this was it cost only 5 eggs. Jorma Sauvala's MT is a leather dressed dominant with a whip and so on... This album is a hard one to categorize and stand. It is not progressive rock but maybe it tries to be progressive on some hardcore disco 80's way. Ihmemaa is not bad and occasionally it is even quite good but on the whole it is a bit hard to understand both musically and lyrically.
Tuntematon tekijä = Unknown factor
Ihmemaa = A wonderland

Jon & Robin - Elastic Event (1967 Abnak)

I couldn't help myself picking this up because of the cover. The content is decent bubblegum pop.

he male-female duo Jon & Robin are thought of as a one-hit wonder for their playful 1967 Top 20 hit “Do It Again a Little Bit Slower.” Actually, however, they recorded quite a bit in the mid-to-late ’60s, with an engaging if somewhat lightweight style craftily mixing AM radio mid-’60s pop/rock with a little psychedelia and Southern soul.
“Do It Again a Little Bit Slower” was certainly the best of their discs, with its likable male-female vocal tradeoffs, a “Cool Jerk”-like soul piano riff at strategic points, and an effective fadeout that languorously stretched out the suggestive title phrase.
But their two LPs and a bunch of 1965-1969 singles included some enjoyable material as well, devised with help from some fine songwriters and some of the best production and backup musician talent in their Dallas base.
The male half of the duo, Jon Abdnor, had recorded some solo singles for his millionaire father’s Abnak label before hooking up with teenage singer Javonne Braga, who was billed as “Robin” on the records the pair made together. Their one national hit, “Do It Again a Little Bit Slower” (see previous post) came from the pen of Wayne Carson Thompson, most famous for writing the Boxtops’ “The Letter.”
The duo also recorded several other Thompson compositions, including the fairly gritty soul-popper “Dr. Jon (The Medicine Man),” which was a big hit in Texas, although it didn’t break nationally. Jon & Robin themselves wrote little original material, although they did benefit from production by ex-rockabilly star Dale Hawkins and Mike Rabon of the Five Americans, a fellow Abnak act.
Indeed, several of the Five Americans played on some Jon & Robin sessions, and another Abnak artist, soul singer Bobby Patterson, also helped out with some of their recordings. By the end of the 1960s, however, Jon & Robin had split, though Jon Abdnor did put out a 1969 solo LP, Intro to Change, billed to John Howard Abdnor & the Involvement. (Richie Unterberger)

Quote from "Manny" at Redtelephone66.com
About Jon (John Abnor), I knew this guy when I was in prison in Huntsville, Texas in the 80s. He was in there for shooting and killing his nurse girlfriend. He has no possibility of parole. He was one crazy/angry guy, no kidding. This was the same time period that David Crosby was there too for a gun charge. All of us at the same location, the Wynne Unit.

Nucleus - S/T (1969 Mainstream this re)

Organ and fuzzy guitar driven psych prog with some jazz dimensions. I'm not sure yet if i like it or not...   Nucleus is not too easy album and main vocalist's voice and the way of his singing is not easy to digest too. Next day: Now i know, this album is one of those which don't open immediately. Today when i'm listening it again i wonder what i heard yesterday. This is an excellent album. A week later: I have listened this many times during this week and the more i hear it the more convinced i am about its geniusness. I'm so happy i picked this up at a record fair last week.

Yellow - Keltakuume/Yellow Fever (1975 Finnlevy))

Original vinyl LP is quite rare and costs around 100 euros when available. The music on the album is semiheavy "prog" or should i say frog. It is mostly composed by guitarist Melvin McRae (American). Yellow was from the city of Turku, Finland and made another album too by a bit different manning and name Melvin McRae Band. The original album is quite rare too. I'm sorry to say i don't get the idea of this music, i have tried but no... There is some good guitar playing by M. McR but not much more. Yellow was a bit cult band for me for forty years because my neighbour and my best friend's big brother ReijoT played bass in the band on some gigs (not on this album) at that time when i was a bit above ten. I had never heard it through only some pieces and when it came out on CD in 2010 it was far from what i remembered and thought it would be.

Sixto Rodriguez - Coming From Reality (1971) & Cold Fact (1970)

This is one of the very first albums i have posted on my blog when i started in December 2009. I found this mint condition copy in June 2009 ago at a charity shop (here in Finland) among one euro costing gospel and classical music albums. Had never heard of him but at home when i listened to the record, i thought wow, who is this guy with that hypnotic voice, why haven't i heard anything from him before. July the first 2010 i pronounced on this blog "I Think Of You" the best love song ever. That time i listened to the album over and over again. Then in 2010 i purchased both his albums on CD. Then i put them aside for a bit over two years till i recently to my surprise got to know Malik Bandjelloul from Sweden (his grandfather was born in Finland by the way :-)) had made a long documentary about him and it even won the Oscar. Yesterday i went to see the film and was stunned! No doubt it is the best music document i have seen. Nobody of us six in the theatre raised up to leave before the credits were over. Awesome feeling!

There's a track named "Heikki's Suburbia Bus Tour". First name Heikki is original Finnish name, so it would be interesting to know who this Heikki was or is.

The Turtles - Wooden Head (1972 Blue Whale)

This is a compilation of previously unreleased songs. The best tracks are with some psychedelic sound and mood elements seasoned "She'll Come Back" and "On A Summers Day". Nice, sunny and self-confident  album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VXjQRVJftY
